Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD)

 

The Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) unit is used for extensive decarburization of the melt. The process injects oxygen and inert gas (argon or nitrogen) through submerged tuyeres and additional oxygen is blown through a top lance.

The AOD process is suitable for production of stainless steel and other high-grade alloys because dilution with argon/nitrogen minimizes unwanted chromium oxidation.

 

  1. AOD Tuyere working lining: Under very harsh working conditions, always being rigorously eroded by overheated molten steel and high alkaline slag attack, and cool Argon-Oxygen mixed high pressurized gases spray leading to severe thermal shock, interrupted operations temperature changes, A Grade high Calcium MD and high Chrome Rebounded Fused Magnesite Chrome Brick (RMK)  products are recommended.
  2. AOD slag line zone working lining: Under very harsh working conditions, always being attacked by high alkaline slag and endured temperature changes. A Grade high Calcium MD and high Chrome RMK products are recommended.
  3. AOD free zone and furnace bottom working lining: Under bad working conditions, always being attacked by high alkaline slag, eroded or splashed by molten steel. MD or Direct-bonded magnesite-chrome bricks (DMK)  products are recommended.
  4. AOD furnace arch zone working lining: Mainly under mechanical stress damage, MD or DMK products are recommended, reinforced castable are alternatives.
